Algenol’s enhanced algae use sunlight to convert inorganic carbon (e.g. CO2) to organic molecules like ethanol. The DIRECT TO ETHANOL® process produces nearly 160 gallons of ethanol for each metric tonne of CO2 consumed. For commercial-scale DIRECT TO ETHANOL® production, CO2 is ideally captured from anthropogenic sources like power plants, refineries, fertilizer plants, cement plants and grain ethanol facilities.
Since neither high purity nor high pressure CO2 is required for our algae-based process, algae ready CO2capture is fundamentally cost-advantaged in comparison to that for underground sequestration (CSS) or enhanced oil recovery (EOR) ready CO2.
