Algenol's algae based photosynthetic process is enhanced by the introduction of CO2 gases into the growth medium. Industrial-scale algae growing sites will consume massive quantities of CO2.

Algae's beneficial impact on the environment is not limited to its CO2 absorption. Another major benefit is that algae production systems do not compete with agricultural land uses and do not use food as a feedstock. The DIRECT TO ETHANOL ™ technology will not drive up the price of corn, sugar, and other field crops used for ethanol and other biofuels production nor will it drive up the prices of the downstream products like beef, poultry and other foods reliant on corn or sugar, or their products such as sweetners.

Ethanol production will take place in proprietary contained and sealed photobioreactor systems that do not require soil for growth and use 90% less water than conventional agriculture (the water that is used is seawater). These photobioreactors will be located on low-cost, arid terrain, not high-value agricultural land.

The environmental benefits of ethanol production from algae further Algenol's mission to produce an affordable, clean, low-impact, renewable energy that will foster a cleaner environment for our children.
